St Mary's is a Catholic local parish school catering for the educational needs to primary children in Killyleagh, Shrigley and outlying districts. It was originally founded in about 1900 but the present building opened in 1969. This is 'maintained to the highest standard' and offers an infant department with three classrooms and a junior department with four classrooms, art room and library/computer suite, both departments linked by a spacious dining/PE hall and attractive entrance hall. The school is situated in 'pleasantly landscaped' grounds with grass and tarmac playing areas. Extra-curricular activities include football, netball, art/craft, computers, chess, book club and French. There is also a school choir and woodwind tuition. Each year children enter Bangor Speech and Drama Festival, and there are opportunities for educational visits. The school maintains good links with the parish and wider community. It is a caring school where the whole school community shares a common goal - to do the very best for each child in its care.' .
