Background:
Established in 1973, the school serves the community of Comber and its district. The main building opened in 1979 and offers 15 classrooms, assembly hall, purpose-built library and separate dining hall. The recently refurbished Andrews Memorial Hall is an integral part of the school. Five classes are currently housed in temporary mobile accommodation. A wide range of sports includes soccer, netball, hockey, mini-rugby and athletics, and swimming is available at Ards Pool for Primary 5 classes. Many children benefit from additional coaching through the Youth Sport Scheme. From Primary 4 onwards, pupils are placed in one of four house teams. The school has a 'very strong' musical and dramatic tradition' with a choir, tuition in brass and strings, and junior and senior drama groups. Educational visits are important parts of the curriculum. There are cordial relationships with parents and a flourishing parent-teacher association. 'School policy aims to strike a balance between the best of new methodology and those qualities and standards from the past which discerning parents still hold in high regard.' .
