Opened in 1952, in spacious and pleasant grounds; well-equipped, with wide range of resources, including computers in every classroom. Pupils come from a widening catchment area between Holywood and Bangor; a private bus is provided to assist with transport. Numbers have risen sharply in recent years. A new purpose-built classroom and resource room are under construction. 'Promotion of pupil self-esteem form as integral part of the development of the whole child.' Broad and balanced curriculum based on core subjects of national curriculum. Emphasis on ethos of 'safe, happy, harmonious and caring family atmosphere'. High proportion of pupils take transfer procedure tests to gain places in grammar schools. Extra-curricular activities include swimming, badminton, guitar, recorder tuition, brass orchestra, crafts, netball, hockey, football, and cycling proficiency. Many educational visits throughout the year; significant efforts to involve local community through harvest and carol services; also school fetes. Before-school care, from 7.45am; after-school care, until 5.30pm. Ethos: 'Very positive: a pleasant place to work and learn, and the pupils feel secure, happy and valued.' .
