Background:

Established in 1924; takes its name from imposing Regency mansion in which first housed; has occupied present site on outskirts of prosperous market town of Newtownards since 1962. Major building programme improved facilities in science, technology, home economics, history, geography, business studies, and information and communication technology; new £8.9m total refurbishment from June 2003. All-weather hockey pitches, rugby pitches, large sports hall. Pupils use nearby tennis courts, Astroturf pitch, swimming pool and leisure centre owned by Ards Borough Council. In recent years, rugby, cricket, athletics and both boys' and girls' hockey sides have won provincial or national titles. Sportsmark Award. Strong in music, drama, debating.
